Well done Volvo for your awareness of this vital issue. Would that other major companies were so forward looking and responsible. This project deserves backing to the hilt. We hear a lot of talk, but how many companies actually do!

I have to agree with the above posts. Don’t tell me a company has actually come up with something viable, instead of just paying lip service. Hope other companies will follow Volvo’s example. If not, I hope they make a mint!

It looks nice and I think the fact that it has lower emissions can make a pleasure for the owner.

This was taken at the Revolve Eco-Rally out doors exhibition after the What Car? Green Car of the Year awards. I know- I was there! It was pertainent when Volvo said what about having our car congestion charge exempt!

PS In response to 1st comment, don’t know what he drives but Zac Goldsmith was in the Revolve Eco-Rally driving ITM Power’s hydrogen fuelled converted Focus then the Tesla. Where he broke the rules and arrived next to City Hall early!!

The emissions of the S40 (118 g/km) are not lower than a Prius (104 g/km for current) or a Honda Insight (101 g/km) or a Honda Civic hybrid (109 g/km) either.
Low emission diesels are only low emission on CO2 and this is not the only gas or substance in a car’s exhaust. NOx, Carbon Monoxide and carcinogenic particulates are all in diesel exhausts and the levels are MUCH higher. According to something I read recently the NOx emissions are 16 times higher on a C30 DRIVe (eco version) than a Prius.
The CO2 number might look eco, but the other emissions are much higher than the petrol hybrid cars. These pollutants are as harmful (if not more) than CO2 and NOx can be converted into N2O in the atmosphere which is identified by the Kyoto protocol as a greenhouse gas. NOx is also a nasty air quality pollutant that causes smog and respiratory problems. PM10 particulates (Euro 4 emission regulations don’t require a particulate trap) which are found in diesel emission are also thought to be carcinogenic.
