There is much risk of being misunderstood in this matter.

Certainly, it is not a matter of judging the woman – she will have her motives for proceeding the way she has. No one can judge her but her conscience and He that made it.

The act, however, of procuring a pregnancy at a advanced age – is there, out in the open, for all to judge. Nor should we feel awful for judging her act provided we take care not to judge her. She will know her own mind.

Keeping an objective eye on the issue is paramount.

The Mayor refers to Nature. To nature we go, and we find inescapable the conclusion that things are not as they should be when a woman procures a pregnancy at such an age.

What’s more, the well-being of a child depends on many factors and not many of them have to with the bank account of the mother.

A proper formation in human love will be the success or failure of that child’s life and no one will argue that the conditions into which it is now to be born are ideal. Indeed, the woman herself indicates in her answers that the matter can be easily construed as a triumph of her will over the actual good of the child, as ’selfish’.

Art perfects Nature.
Therefore medicine is our servant in our battle against natural frailties. However, it is an abuse of medicine that it be used to procure our every want.

I should not abort the child – since its existence, quite as the Mayor says, is better than its non-existence. The point, however is irrelevant because society rightly scorns the woman’s medical procedure not the having or not of the child now that she is pregnant.

The Church of England spokesman does not speak obscurely when he says
“a child is a gift, not a right”, the ’sign’ of the love between man and a woman – the highest visible, living ’sign’ available to man.

The Mayor quotes the Bible.
The end of the Bible is to teach – and what lesson do we come away with from Genesis if not one of the greatness of love and the dignity of human life?

If we turn the Bible texts to our own ends or blindly copy the examples we read about in its pages, we shall lose the meaning of the Book entirely.

Hey great post about this… Honestly I feel we have no right to judge on this matter everyone wants to be a critic.. as usual… the sad thing is people have a tendency to tear people down based off their own insecurities, people are weak and sad and most of them live their wholes lives not finding the joys out of life (hey don’t makes others feel bad cause you don’t like your self)… they rather bring people down to their self petty then celebrate the JOY OF A NEW LIFE! yes this old lady wont be around much longer…. but believe me when I say this I love my grandma she raised me more then my own mother (only cause my mom wanted to pursue her carrier, which I resented her for) I learn more from my grandma in our short relationship then I have anyone else…She was my portal… I wish she was still around today I feel she had so much more to share with me… but I know what I learn from her was decades of knowledge something my mother is still learning…. anywho this old lady was able to live her life as a young woman to the fullest with out a child she had the abilities to accomplish all of stuff that young woman who have their kids early regretted not doing. This lady is ready to spend the rest of her life devoting her time to her brand new baby! congrats grandMOTHER

If someone wants a child that much, why not? So many kids are brought up in unloving families, and this one will be loved.

We don’t have the right to disapprove, not at all. As long as the baby is loved and wanted, that is all that matters. There are enough heartbreaking stories in the paper of Baby Peters and little Victorias, at the mercy of the very people who are meant to care for them. This abuse is the real obscenity of our age, and we should save our disapproval for those situations.

I don’t approve of the way the press and some people poke their noses into other peoples’ lives in general. Mind your own business, and sort that, would be a good rule to live by.

ps. Glad to know the Mayor reads the tabloids sometimes. I do too sometimes (OK a lot) and get told off, although my excuse is you have to keep up to date with the trends. The tabloids can be brilliant in the way they cover issues. Now I can primly say Boris does it too.
