Alternately and in case the Tories get in next time, someone could look into leveraging the value of a peerage, ie getting a loan against the title to purchase the title. Could lead to some novella-worthy social ramifications.

That’s unfair Psimon I’d trust them to post a letter if it contained a grubby promise of a peerage in exchange for a cartload of well used fivers.

The Labour party are just a bunch of lying (i can say it, even if Boris can’t!) cheating self-serving w**kers who i wouldn’t trust to post a letter, let alone run a country.
