If there is someone who has the Palestinian peoples' needs at heart appointed in this position then I expect that Isreal/the US will refuse to deal with this person either. Yasser Arafat had so many flaws but it is still strange that you describe him as "the man who brought so much suffering to his own people". Perhaps he was guilty of not ameliorating the suffering of his people? Perhaps he inadvertantly contributed, through inaction and action, to their suffering.
